  • Earn 2 CE hours and APT-approved non-contact hours

  • Build your skills as a child therapist & play therapist

What to Expect

Geek therapy and play therapy are innovative and effective approaches that harness the power of personal interests and creativity to promote emotional and psychological well-being.

Geek therapy recognizes that individuals often find solace and meaning in their geeky passions, whether it's through video games, comics, or other fandoms. Therapists incorporate these interests into the therapeutic process, allowing clients to explore their emotions, develop coping skills, and build resilience in a context that feels comfortable and engaging.

Play therapy, on the other hand, taps into the natural language of children by utilizing play as a means of communication and healing.

Both approaches encourage self-expression, build a therapeutic rapport, and foster personal growth by embracing individuality and creativity, making them valuable tools in the field of mental health that can cater to a diverse range of clients and their unique needs.

Objective 1

List the 20 therapeutic powers of play to describe the inherent qualities in a play therapy session.

Objective 2

Identify 2-3 valuable resources (web sites, books) to enhance your “geek therapy” knowledge.

Objective 3

Apply 3-4 creative play therapy interventions using video games, LEGO, sandtray and more.
